Casina Mozart:

Casina Mozart is the typical example of villa right outside city boundary. This kind of adobes became common between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, as shown by the architectural elements of the facade.
The Apulian countryside is dotted with this kind of villas. The villas formed a veritable system of seasonal estates where people would usually spend spring and summer. The common hallmark of these estates is the distinctive colour of the outer walls, ranging from red, purple or pink to the different nuances of yellow. The bright colours are often accompanied by special drawings. These drawings were meant to make the villa stand out against the surrounding dark green landscape of pine and olive trees. If you check the travellers’ notes of that time, Salento’s countryside is always described as a sort of natural mediterranean garden, one huge green field where the villas are like wildly coloured blooms. The countryside surrounding Casina Mozart, besides the wonderful citrus grove with its ancient mandarin orange trees right behind the villa, is rich in olive trees, beautiful fruit trees – like apricot, cherry, peach, fig and prickly pear trees – and sports a marvellous strawberry vine trellis.
The farmer takes care of the seasonal garden. All around the garden it is possible to find all sorts of flowers and vines. Especially worth of notice is the “green room” in the middle of the garden with its marvellous green grass and its tall cypress walls.
